Since Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, I like to celebrate the spirit of the season each year by giving thanks for all of the things in my life that I appreciate. The Thanksgiving holiday is a very special and much needed time of the year, especially in these times we're living in. No matter what our lives are like, everyone has something and/or somebody to be thankful for and now is as good a time as any to be reminded of that.
I've been doing a special "Thanksgiving Thanks" series on my blog this month where I'm trying to find at least one thing for every day of the month that I'm thankful for. I'm saving my personal gratitude for that space, but in the spirit of the season and I'd like to share some quotes that fit the holiday spirit perfectly.
In recent months, I've discovered a love for quotes. Quotes are short, little nuggets of wisdom or humor, reminders of the things that are important in life. They make us laugh and make us cry, they let us know that we're not alone in our experiences, and oftentimes they inspire, which is what I like best about them. I present here some little reminders of what the spirit of Thanksgiving is all about, keepsakes for this holiday and every day. I hope that they serve as a remembrance that even though times are tough, there's still plenty to be thankful for, no matter what.
I began last year's piece with a post I had put on Facebook. The words are as heartfelt to me now as they were last year, and to anyone who reads this, I thank you!
"Right about now I'm feeling very fortunate. To all the people in my life, who've touched me in some way, any way, I want to say thank you...and to those of you whose lives I've touched in any type of meaningful way; again I give thanks to you for allowing me to do so!"
Here are some other Thanksgiving-inspired quotes worth remembering:
There are no mistakes, no coincidences. All events are blessings given to us to learn from. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross
Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing. -Mother Teresa
All the joy in the world comes from focusing on the well-being of others; all the suffering in the world comes from focusing on our own. Unknown
First find the peace within; then give it away. Elsa Joy Bailey
Go out into the world today and love the people you meet. Let your presence light new light in the hearts of people. Mother Teresa
Life is short, live it. Love is rare, grab it. Anger is bad, dump it. Fear is awful, face it. Memories are sweet, cherish them. Unknown
If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, "thank you," that would suffice. Meister Eckhart
As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. John Fitzgerald Kennedy
He who thanks but with the lips
Thanks but in part;
The full, the true Thanksgiving
Comes from the heart.
J.A. Shedd
Thanksgiving was never meant to be shut up in a single day. Robert Caspar Lintner

A thankful heart is not only the greatest virtue, but the parent of all the other virtues. Cicero

So there you have it, some wonderful reminders of what Thanksgiving is all about. So take from them what you will, use the holiday to give gratitude for what is most important in life: the things and the people that enrich your life. Share that gratitude not only on Thanksgiving, but each and every day you are alive. Happy Thanksgiving!
