Thanksgiving Party Tips: How to Make a Turkey Head Family Portrait

Sean Hein
Thanksgiving is the best time to get together and spend some valuable time with your family and friends. A fun-filled Thanksgiving will have a story to tell for many years to come. Here are some ways to make you Thanksgiving a fun filled and memorable one.

Turkey Head Family Portrait: Remember the episode in Friends where Joey had his head stuck into a turkey. It was one of the most hilarious moments and we can't even remember how long we stood there laughing.

Here is a completely new idea to make a Joey moment out of your Thanksgiving. All you need for this are a few big paper bags. Avoid using plastic so as to avoid suffocation and injury. Cut out portions of the paper bag to make sure the there is enough opening for ventilation and vision. Grab a bunch of straws and insert them into one end of the paper bad. Staple around the portion of the bag where the straw is placed, this makes the straws inside the bag look like a turkey's leg. Surround the lower end of the straws with some trash paper so that it looks bigger than the ends, thus looking like a real turkey leg.

Do the same for all the corners, but make sure there is enough space for a kid or an adult to conveniently wear it and remove the bag without suffocating or hurting themselves. Paint the surface of the paper bad with a faint cream paint to make it more realistically look like a turkey. To add more flavor to it, coat the paper bad with a faint layer of buttermilk with some color mixed to it and let it dry. This not only makes the paper bag turkey look like a turkey, but it also make the paper bag smell like one. Get some inflatable turkey shaped balloons from a retail store and let them float at various places of the room.

For a final turkey snap, make a turkey head for all the invitees, parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren and relatives and make them all wear the turkey head for a turkey head family portrait. For those who are not enthusiastic enough to wear the turkey head make them hold one of the inflated turkey balloons, so that they do not feel left out. After Thanksgiving is all about everyone coming together.

This is not for the mom's, they get to cook the original turkey, this is for the kids who needs to have some fun filled indoor activity when there are reasons to avoid outdoor activity. All you need for this activity is some colorful clay, some artificial feathers and some bowls. Ask the kids to make their own turkey. They can use the bowl for the body of the turkey, covering it with clay.

Then it's left to the kid's creativity. Let them make their own turkey neck, head and other features. This might be a nice way to bring out the creativity in the kids. Ask the kids to use the feather to make it look more original. Make a turkey crown for the best creative kid, a simple ring of clay with the feathers stuck in them, just like those Red Indian head bands.

Don't forget to give the crown to all the kids, they are all winners. And what more, the grownups get to spend some time on their own when the kids are preoccupied with their own turkeys.
