Thanksgiving Day is a great time for families to spend some quality time together and catch up. However it can also be a very hectic day for the host. So if you have kids the Thanksgiving Place Holder craft is an excellent way to keep the kids entertained and out from under your feet, while at the same time still including them in the Thanksgiving festivities. The Thanksgiving Place Holder Craft is very simple and fun, making it suitable to even young children.

For a smooth Thanksgiving Place Holders craft execution it is probably best to do a little planning in advance. Go through the list of craft supplies to make sure you have enough of each item for all the children and to make each person a Thanksgiving placeholder. If possible set up a craft table for the children to work at that is near everyone else, that way they are still part of the Thanksgiving happenings, you can keep an eye on them and it might even encourage a few of the "big" kids to get involved.

Your craft supplies should include the enough of each item listed here: white construction paper, scissors, thin felt tipped markers, foam stamps in fall shapes such as leaves, pumpkins, turkeys and more. It's not necessary to have all the shapes mentioned, use what you have or manage to find. You will also need some stickers with a fall theme. Again the same rule applies, leaves, pumpkins, turkeys are all good additions. Finally you will need some acrylic paints in brown, yellow, red and orange.

Start off the Thanksgiving Place Holders craft by cutting each piece of construction paper in half. Then take each half and fold it in half creating one placeholder. The next step is to write the name of the person on the placeholder. Very young children may have trouble with this part so you may want nominate an older child to help with this or do it yourself.

Once the basic Thanksgiving placeholder is created you don't really have to be strict with the decorations. But here are some suggestions. Using the stamps and stickers decorate the space around the name. You can rotate the stamp colours, use just one colour or coordinate the colour with the image. Older children may enjoy making more intricate images by using the stamp to make a base colour and the painting on other details with different colours. For example if there is a turkey stamp. Brown could be used for the turkey's body and then the tails feathers can be painted brightly in red, yellow and orange. You could even paint on the eyes. Another fun idea is to stamp some images on the Thanksgiving placeholder before the name is written on it, creating a colour background. Once all the Thanksgiving placeholder crafts are finished, you could have a little fun with your guests by allowing the kids to decide the seating my putting the placeholders on the table.

This Thanksgiving craft is very flexible. You can use a variety of techniques, colours, stamps and stickers. It can be super simple for very small children and more complicated so that older children will get a huge amount of fun and enjoyment out of it as well. To find supplies check out the arts and craft section of your local store, if they have a specific area for scrapbooking supplies make sure to look there as they usually have a wide choice of stickers. The Thanksgiving Place Holder craft is a wonderful addition to your Thanksgiving Day festivities and its sure to bring enjoyment to all your dinner guests.

At one time, the turkey and the bald eagle were each considered as the national symbol of America. Benjamin Franklin was one of those who argued passionately on behalf of the turkey. Franklin felt the turkey, although "vain and silly", was a better choice than the bald eagle, whom he felt was "a coward".
