In all aspects of life I am Blessed,
and am held in the Earth's Warm Caress.
Life's Harsh Appearance Deceives,
Masks all the Blessings Received
Until we believe life's dark, clouded
Awakened, we should never have doubted.
I'm Thankful for the feast on my table (a meal still affordable & available)
Grateful for the loved ones who join us,
keeping clear cobwebs -- fear and loneliness.
For estranged friends & family far away--
We live! We survive another day
Hearts ponder with contemplative regret
what harm our lost relationships beget.
I'm Thankful for lower fuel costs (Hopeful proof that not all is lost)
Grateful that our incomes, while less,
Can help us scrape by through this mess.
And while we may think we are wanting
we know wealth, not poverty and longing.
I'm Thankful for this table and this home (without I know not where I'd roam)
As communities fall to foreclosures,
our bodies are safe from exposure.
We are warm, we are dry, we have light
These things will see us through the night.
I'm Thankful for those who serve (and everything they help preserve)
Due to their efforts nonpartisan,
I am an American citizen.
For firemen, police, and park rangers
I'm grateful for all my good neighbors.
I'm Thankful for nature surrounding us (and with such beauty endows us!)
For the wilds, winds and waters which wend,
Shared with creatures of all sorts, our friends.
We surely have reason to celebrate
As within these verses I illustrate.
On this table we lay out our blessings (represented with turkey and dressing!)
With every bite that we take,
we remember the One who is Great.
Our Harvest is Great Indeed,
And humbled together are we.

This is great!
Very beautiful words and message :)
I very much enjoyed the content of this poem. As a rule, I don't like aabbccdd, etc., rhyme schemes, but you made some interesting choices, especially whenever you rhymed parentheses. I just consider that rhyme scheme a little trivializing, too much like rap to express such sensitive thoughts. I get a sense of some greatness, some holiness, behind the words. Ever tried other rhyme schemes? Or free verse?
Wow! This is very inspirational.
Fantastic! Happy Thanksgiving to you! :-) I enjoyed reading this.
Great poem.
So true - perspective makes all the difference - it's all relative!!
Wonderful job on this poem.
Lovely, appreciated the compelling focus on gratitude rather than on any troubles that befall us - but for what is important (home, warmth, light and even lower fuel costs).
