Thanksgiving Poems in Haiku Form

The Silliest of Poems for the Coolest of Holidays

Bryan Alaspa
In case it's been a while since you were in high school English, most haikus follow a simple format. The first sentence is five syllables. Then the second sentence is seven syllables. Finally, you wrap it all up with a third five syllable sentence.

Silly? Yes. Fun to write? I think so. Time for some for Thanksgiving? You bet!

No gifts to buy now

Just lots of turkey to eat

Holiday for food

-------------------------------------

Mom appears harried

While men site and watch football

Sex divide exists

------------------------------------

Sit 'round the table

My uncle wants to say grace

I eye the stuffing

-------------------------------------

Gluttony is in

Evidence on this day now

As we stuff ourselves

-------------------------------------

A holiday that

Is only about eating

And being thankful

-------------------------------------

Oh poor sad turkey

So minus your turkey head

Innards filled with bread

-------------------------------------

You have to love pie

The crusty goodness and the

Pumpkin paste inside

-------------------------------------

Food coma sets in

Football drones in the next room

Perfect for sleeping

-------------------------------------

Tomorrow shopping

And fighting among shoppers

Now is for resting

-------------------------------------

Weeping for stomach

Oh the pain of too much food

Where's my antacid?

-------------------------------------

Thanks everyone and have a great Thanksgiving!
