Thanksgiving Stuffing and Dressing Recipes

Karen Barnes
Whether you stuff your turkey or make the dressing on the side, Thanksgiving dinner isn't complete without it. The stuffing or dressing is one of my favorite parts of our Thanksgiving dinner. It's one of the side dishes that makes this holiday dinner complete in our house.

Sure any of us can go to the store and buy a box of the pre-mixed stuffing and make it for dinner. The homemade kind of dressing is the best kind no matter which recipe you use.

I know some like to add oysters to it while others use plain white bread and others will use cornbread to make their stuffing. I have also seen it made with yellow cornbread which I think isn't as great as the white cornbread stuffing.

While the recipes for dressing and stuffing aren't all that different, the terminology of it is. Stuffing, as it is called, gets made and shoved into the cavity of the birds body while the turkey is roasting in the oven. The dressing is made and placed into a backing dish of some kind and baked in the oven separate from the turkey. That is the difference in the two words.

Now if you are wondering where the recipes are for either of these items for your Thanksgiving dinner, they will appear at the bottom of this article. I am providing the original cornbread and regular white bread dressing or stuffing recipes along with some alternatives to this wonderful addition to a Thanksgiving dinner. Also, the differences into the two words is the location around the world you grew up in. Some consider the two words as I mentioned before; while others think of them as being the same thing. I know it's all a matter of semantics, but those are two things you may want two consider with this holiday side dish.

Bear with me for a few more minutes on this topic for your Thanksgiving dinner. Like I mentioned previously, some people like to add oysters to their stuffing or dressing. That is one of the traditional styles of this dish. Another is sage dressing. I add sage into my cornbread dressing rather than the oysters because I'm not a fan of those.

I did find a few others that I haven't heard of because I though maybe you may want to mix it up a little this year. After all, we all have different tastes in our food. Sometimes adding something different to an old standby recipe can turn it into a whole different beast of a dish.

Take your time and read through the recipes that are going to follow for your dressing or stuffing recipe. You may find one to make this year for your Thanksgiving dinner that is different from years past.
