Thanksgiving Stuffing Recipe

A Special Recipe with Stovetop Stuffing

Barbie Crafts
For my kids, Thanksgiving will always smell like Mamaw's house. That smell was her amazing Stuffing. My dear mother in law made the most wonderful baked stuffing. I never really understood how she made this dish, and each time she would explain it, it made less sense to me. I am not sure if that was intentional, or just characteristic of the way she cooked. She NEVER measured anything, so it was really difficult to find out how she made anything. When we were newlyweds, she immediately corrected me for following the directions when preparing Jello! She did not like it with that much water in it. I found that amusing!

I experimented with several recipes for simulating that dressing, or stuffing as some call it. I never quite got it, but I did come up with my own version of stuffing, which is quite good. My Thanksgiving stuffing recipe is quick and easy, as usual, but very different. I adapted Stove Top Stuffing, which I had always used, to a wonderful baked dish you will enjoy.

Ingredients:
2 boxes Stove Top Stuffing
1 egg
2-3 apples, chopped but not peeled
margarine or butter

Instructions:

Prepare Stove Top stuffing as directed. Remove from stove or microwave.

Mix in one egg, and chopped apples.

Spread in a greased pan.

Dot with Margarine.

Bake at 375 until done. This will be around 20 minutes in most ovens. Watch for burning.

Baked Thanksgiving stuffing has a harder, dryer texture.

Slice into squares.
