I wrote down this recipe from a newspaper article years ago. Decades later, it wouldn't be Thanksgiving for our family without it.

Ingredients
Serves 6
29 ounce Canned sweet potatoes
6 tbsp. Melted butter or margarine
1 1/4 cups Sugar
1/2 tsp. Cinnamon
1/2 tsp. Nutmeg
2 Large eggs
3/4 cup Crushed corn flakes
1/2 cup Brown sugar
6 tbsp. Melted butter or margarine
Directions for Thanksgiving Sweet Potato Casserole
1
Step 1
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Pour sweet potatoes and syrup into a large saucepan or pot. Heat potatoes over medium heat.2
Step 2
While heating, use a hand mixer on medium low to blend the potatoes and syrup to a smooth consistency. Remove from heat.3
Step 3
Add 6 tablespoons of butter or margarine, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and eggs to the sweet potatoes. Mix well.4
Step 4
Pour into a two-quart baking dish. Bake for 20 minutes and remove from oven.5
Step 5
Combine remaining ingredients in a medium bowl. Spread mixture over sweet potatoes. Return to oven for 10 minutes. Let stand for several minutes before serving. Tip
Save time on Thanksgiving by making the casserole the night before, baking for 20 minutes and popping into the fridge. The next day, add the topping and bake until done. The recipe can be doubled. Add about 20 minutes cooking time when doing so.
