For this project, you will need (per napkin ring):
- One unfinished wooden napkin ring (available at craft supply stores)
- Scrabble game board tiles
- Medium or fine grit sandpaper
- Tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Copper Foil
- Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Gold Foil
- Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Silver Foil
- Epoxy glue
- A coordinating colored cloth napkin
- Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth
Begin by covering the area you will be completing your Thanksgiving napkin ring craft with newspaper and/or a large drop cloth. Sand the unfinished wooden napkin ring with medium grit sandpaper. Wipe away any dust using a tack cloth or other soft cloth from the surface of the wooden element. In addition, sand and wipe the non-letter side of each wooden Scrabble game board tile.
Lay out the napkin ring and three Scrabble game board tiles. Prime the outside and inside of the wooden napkin ring using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Also, prime both sides of the wooden game board tiles. Allow the primed pieces to dry for two to three hours before continuing.
Paint one wooden game board tile using Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Copper Foil. Paint a second wooden game board tile using Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Gold Foil. Paint a third wooden game board tile using Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Silver Foil. Choose one of the three paints and coat the inside and outside of the primed napkin ring. Dry all four pieces for about an hour. Apply additional coats of paint, if desired. Allow the paint to set overnight.
Apply a bit of epoxy glue to the letter side of the wooden game tile pieces. Adhere one piece of each color to the painted napkin ring. Once completely dried, insert a napkin in a coordinating color and enjoy your new creation.
TIP: Scrabble game board tiles for crafting can often be purchased online by the bag. Otherwise, check local thrift stores for unusable game sets at a cheap price.
