Thanksgiving Table Games for Kids

Monica Bullock
Crowded Thanksgiving dinner tables loaded with food and decorations can make kids extremely hyperactive. If you have a sit down meal planned that includes the children in your family then prepare for chaos by having Thanksgiving table games for kids. Small activities and games for the Thanksgiving table will keep children amused in between the turkey carving and the family prayer. Pick inexpensive and colorful table games for children of all ages. Your friends and family will like this idea so much, you can use it again for Christmas.

Activity Placemats

Take a clue from popular family restaurants and have activity placemats at the ready. Buy a box of crayons and select three for each place setting. Tie a ribbon around the crayons to make them into a neat little package. Or splurge a little a buy a small box of eight crayons for each child. Print a Thanksgiving activity page or coloring sheet to place at each place setting. Kids will not mind if you hand draw pictures for them to draw.

Building Blocks

Arrange wooden blocks on the plates of each child, spelling out his or her name. If a child has a very long name then shorten it so the blocks fit nicely on the plate. You can buy large bags of inexpensive wooden blocks and spell out Thanksgiving related words on the table like "turkey" or "pie."

Turkey Bingo

Kids love playing bingo. While you are passing around Thanksgiving dishes and serving up the pumpkin pie, ask an older child to lead the younger ones in turkey bingo. Print an extra sheet of images for the bingo caller to use. Put the extra images in a cup so the bingo leader can pull the images out one by one.

Activity Cups

Younger children love working with manipulatives like candy corn. Keep in mind, small children may choke on candy pieces. Place two small Dixie cups by each place setting. Fill one cup with multiple colored candy corns like yellow or brown candies. A candy corn and mini pumpkin mix would be good to. Show children how to separate their candies moving them from one cup to the other. Alternatively, colored mini marshmallows and pretzel varieties are good for moving around too.

Keep little ones happy and entertained at the Thanksgiving dinner table with fun games. These tableside activities are excellent for any holiday season or large family gathering.
