Thanksgiving Words of Wisdom for People with Diabetes

These are 5 tips for Thanksgiving Day with diabetes patients. Main topics included are preparations, item must-haves, and alternative suggestions. Careful planning can help tremendously. Always plan holiday events to stay aware of any possible problems/solutions.

Here are several suggestions for ways to prevent diabetics from suffering during Thanksgiving Day's meal. It may seem complicated, but the change in diet for non-diabetics may prove not only to be a great learning experience but also may allow breakthroughs in diabetic meal research. This will also provide a way for diabetics to take their meals without undue medication.

First of all, keep the amount of candy and sweets low. The way peanut butter is not recommended for animals, sweets and candies may cause diabetics to suffer. If you can, substitute harmful ingredients that normally accompany a Thanksgiving meal with vegetables, or tofu/soy products that are more easily digested by the human digestive system.

Eating vegetables only requires a few utensil changes. Where food substitutes are critical to keep diabetics out of seizure and shock levels, utensil changes are variable. That means that you can change your cups, plates, and eating utensils any way you feel like! Plastic or paper utensils may be preferable, both to the guests and to the environment. Fewer glass or metal bowls may save water and recycling paper/plastic items is less work anyways!

Make sure that Thanksgiving stays comfortable by asking, beforehand, what guests prefer in terms of food and entertainment. Diabetics usually have their own prescription and advice prepared by doctors and if they can pass the word along it makes things a lot easier just to go along with the generally prescribed advice for feeding diabetics.

If you can't wow your diabetic guests with large unhealthy creations, try to bring in food from different cultures and countries that is safe for everyone to eat. Wild rice, onions, and baby carrots are just a few examples on how to make a safe meal more exciting. Corn juice, tomato juice, and club soda are also a few suggested items that can make your party healthy and delightful!

One way to alleviate any stress would be to celebrate Thanksgiving Day the way the pilgrims celebrated it: Outdoors. Rent a cabin, set up a nice fireplace with plenty of food and supplies, and everyone will be able to enjoy themselves and get away from the stress that diabetes brings.
