That First Kiss

Steve Helmer
For eleven years now, you have had me walking on air.

And, to tell you the truth, it wasn't very fair.

You captured my heart with so much ease

And left me with a chronic weakness in my knees.

Like a talented archer, when you aimed for my heart, you did not miss

And you did this all with that first kiss.

There was a time when I loved being a bachelor.

I only had to watch out for myself and no other.

I once dreamed of traveling the world.

But then you left my heart unfurled.

Now I only dream of being with you and experiencing true bliss.

And you made sure of that with that first kiss.

Like a leopard pouncing on her prey.

You captured my soul and now I'm here to stay.

The most well trained soldier would never show the same loyalty

As the loyalty you'll get from me.

And it didn't take much to get me wrapped around your finger

Because the effects of that first kiss will forever linger.
