That's Why They Have to Ride the Bulls at the 2007 PBR World Finals

Bull riding fans worldwide are shocked.

Justin McBride, "Mr. Consistency," the reigning 2006 PBR World Champion Bull Rider, bucked off his first three bulls at the PBR World Finals in Las Vegas on October 26-28, 2007.

Most observers felt McBride of Elk City, Oklahoma had a lock on the 2007 PBR Finals and the World Championship. McBride entered the Finals 1,252 points ahead of J.B. Mauney of North Carolina and 1,565 points ahead of Guilherme Marchi of Brazil.

While McBride bucked off all his mounts, Marchi rode all three of his bulls and Mauney stayed on two out of three. As the second weekend of the PBR Finals begins on November 1, 2007 at the Thomas & Mack Arena in Las Vegas, McBride's lead has been cut to 776 points over Mauney and 882 points over Marchi.

The caliber of the bulls at the Finals is mind-boggling. Five bulls are nominated for the coveted AlphaTrade National Champion Bounty Bull title: Big Bucks, Chicken on a Chain, Scene of the Crash, Vertical Limit and White Magic. Vertical Limit is not competing at the Finals due to injury. The four nominees who are competing at the Finals have a track record of bucking off riders in less than 4 seconds and shedding an amazing 87% to 100% of the cowboys who try to ride them.

Ten or fifteen years ago, a bull rider could win a nice belt buckle and a few thousand dollars for winning a world title. Times have changed. The winner of the PBR Finals will walk away with a million dollars and the potential for lucrative endorsement deals. Last year, the World Championship and the million dollar bonus went to Justin McBride. His career earnings now top $3 million. The question is: Can he win the World Championship again in 2007?

The last four days of competition at the PBR World Finals will be televised on the Versus Channel on Thursday, November 1st through Sunday, November 4th at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The final rounds will be telecast live on NBC on Sunday, November 4th at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Check pbrnow.com or versus.com for local broadcast times.

One thing is certain. The 2007 PBR Finals are full of drama, great bull rides and spectacular buck offs. Bull riding fans worldwide are being reminded of the truth of the old sports adage: "That's why they play the game." Stay tuned for the final weekend of the PBR World Finals (November 1-4, 2007) and remember: "That's why they ride the bulls!"
