Thayer's Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner: Good Toner, Bad Scent

I loved the Aubrey Vegecol Toner so much, except the scent of course, as you can see from my review (http://standupforme.blogspot.com/2008/02/vegecol-toner-by-aubrey-organics.html), I tried another toner that was alcohol-free: Thayer's Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner.

This is actually very different from the Vegecol toner, so I feel silly even considering comparing the two. I actually tried this because of the raving reviews from MakeupAlley and everywhere else that I looked. And although I thought that this was a good toner, this is for me.

As I mentioned several times before on my previous posts, I have acne-prone, combination skin that is somewhat sensitive. I have so many dry spots which flake easily if I don't exfoliate regularly, so a lot of time, I rely on my toner to exfoliate. And this Thayer's toner failed miserably at that, at least for me. This is very moisturizing as a toner, and I did not feel any exfoliating action in this toner so anyone else looking for more exfoliation, shouldn't rely on this. But, this helped me reduce the dry flakes that I was getting because it is so moisturizing. But this does not mean that you do not need to moisturize after using this. After all, this is just a toner and it moisturizes, but will not hold the moisture on your skin.

For other pros that kept me from hating this product, this is very gentle, and cleans fairly well. All those alcohol toners strip away the moisture so much and it's very irritating to the skin, but this product does not irritate at all. But, it packs a likeable cleaning power that I thought only existed with the toners containing alcohol. And since it's very gentle, it will calm down some of those redness and give you a soothing after feel which I liked very much.

As for the scent, I find this better than the spoiled coke smell of the vegecol toner, but I don't like it any more than that. I think a lot of people would like the scent because it has a strong rose scent, but personally, I don't like flowery scent on my facial care products, and this was a bit too strong for me. I don't hate it, but I don't like it at all.

So, I think this will be another good toner that I turned down because of the scent. I personally don't like scented cosmetics, but maybe I'm dying to try a scented toner at this point - or maybe not.

There is a Thayer's Original Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera Formula Toner that does not carry a particular scent. They also have a Thayer's Alcohol-Free Unscented Witch Hazel with Organic Aloe Vera Formula Toner. Maybe those two would be more to your liking.
