10. Mediterranean Avenue
Mediterranean Avenue comes in at number 10 for one reason and one reason only. It's dirt-cheap.
9. Boardwalk
The great thing about Boardwalk is if you have hotels on it then you'll make more than any of the other Monopoly properties. The bad thing about Boardwalk is nobody ever landed on it. Boardwalk was never a factor in any games that I played.
8. Free Parking
Okay so technically Free Parking isn't a property but it was a good place to land. Unfortunately a lot of the time there was no or little money.
7. Chance & Community Chest
Another technicality since these aren't Monopoly properties but they often got you more cash than Free Parking, although you could lose some too.
6. North Carolina Avenue
If you want to spend some big bucks and build some houses and hotels then forget about Park Place and Boardwalk. You're much better off going with the green properties, especially North Carolina Avenue.
5. Electric Company
The utilities were always helpful properties to have. Why electric over water? I just like the little light bulb picture more than the water faucet.
4. B&O Railroad
There was actually a test done to see the probability of landing on each of the Monopoly properties. B&O Railroad was the railroad most often landed on.
3. Any Orange Properties
Out of all the different colored Monopoly properties the orange are the most common landed on. In the probability test that was done Tennessee Avenue was the 6th most common place landed, New York Avenue was 7th and St. James Place was 9th.
2. Illinois Avenue
So I've mentioned this probability test that was done. Which of the Monopoly properties is the most common one to land on? Illinois Avenue.
1. Marvin Gardens
I've always been partial to Marvin Gardens. It's got a good name, it gains you a lot of money with hotels, but also isn't too expensive. A lot of people ignore the yellow Monopoly properties because they're yellow, ick. But Marvin Gardens has probably won me more money over the years than any other property. It's won me so much money that when my first son is born I am naming him Marvin Gardens Henderson.

I seriously won and lost one time with baltic avenue.
Mediterranean and Baltic Avenues.. are shit.. Never, ever rely on them for a victory. You cannot win with those. I don't care how many of you say "I WON WITH THOSE ONCE!" No you didn't The most a person will lost if landing on them is 250 dollars, which they can get by selling houses or mortgaging property. Don't forget that people gain 200 dollars when they pass go so that 450 dollars for a hotel on Baltic is really just a 250 that they must owe.
The best properties in my experience (about 13 years) are the Orange monpoly (Saint James place, Tennesee Ave. and New York Avenue) They're cheap to build on and the most expensive on that street. Plus don't forget about jail. All the have do do is roll a 6, 8 or nine.. 6 and 8's can be doubles, too, which gets them out of jail and automatically puts them on the properties.
Boardwalk and Park Place SUCK! Sure if someone lands on them they're hurtin'.... but how often does that happen?

I think you're underrating Mediterranean and Baltic. I loved having hotels on those properties and then taking the other person's money for passing Go when they landed on my slums. I thought the Reds were the best property to own. Good article!
very cool article
What a fun article. My brother used to get mad at me if I scooped up Illinios before him (and vice versa). LOL :-)
