10. Michael Jackson's Moonwalker (Sega Genesis)
Storyline-wise there isn't much of an ending here, Michael Jackson just flies off in his spaceship. But then you are treated to the best credits roll of all-time when Michael Jackson does his signature dance moves: the moon walk, the kick, the spin, the hat throw. The whole thing is to the tune of Bad by Michael Jackson too!
9. Ninja Gaiden (NES)
The Ninja Gaiden ending had everything you could want from an ending. There is a teary goodbye from Ryu's father, a castle that crumbles to the ground and finally the hero and his woman standing together staring off into the sun.
8. Conker's Bad Fur Day (Nintendo 64)
The ending to Conker's Bad Fur Day has to be the funniest ending of all-time. Conker is going head on with an alien. The alien dramatically leaps in the air towards Conker when suddenly he freezes in midair. Conker looks around for a minute and then realizes the game has locked up. Conker then faces the people playing at home, knocks on the screen and asks if there are any game engineers out there that can help the game resume.
7. Super Metroid (Super Nintendo)
Super Metroid's ending might be the most similar to an action movie because after you beat the boss you don't get to just stand there and enjoy an ending, you have to high tail it out of the building before the whole place explodes.
6. God of War (Playstation 2)
God of War has a great ending as Kratos goes toe to toe with the one and only Ares, God of War. Eventually Kratos is victorious and he is crowned the new God of War.
5. Twisted Metal Black (Playstation 2)
In Twisted Metal Black all of the characters are fighting in a fight to the death tournament to get one wish from the man running the tournament, Calypso. Sweet Tooth wants to be free of the curse that has caused his head to constantly be on fire and cause eternal pain. Calypso offers him a vial with the cure but says there is one condition. Sweet Tooth must never kill again. That's a small price to pay to get your curse lifted right? Wrong. Sweet Tooth smashes the vial on the ground because he'd rather kill again then be free of the curse. Sweet Tooth's ending comes to a finale when he adds one last thing at the end, "I killed Calypso about as well as I ever killed anyone."
4. Metroid (NES)
The ending to the original Metroid game dropped one of the biggest bombs in video game history. Samus, the hero that just kicked the butt of an entire planet, is...a girl??
3. Chrono Trigger (Super Nintendo)
Chrono Trigger had one of the most unique and innovative endings. Actually not one, but several. In Chrono Trigger there were actually multiple endings depending on when and where you chose to fight the boss. It was like playing a choose your own adventure game.
2. Final Fantasy VIII (Playstation)
Final Fantasy VIII was the first time that a video game ending came close to being like a cinematic experience. There were beautiful graphics, a touching song playing the in background and everybody living happily ever after. During the credits roll there was even a camcorder recording the characters at their party like you'd see at the end of a movie. I half expected "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" to start playing.
1. Final Fantasy III (Super Nintendo)
Like Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy III was much like experiencing a movie. You know how at the end of a movie there sometimes is a run down about what happened to each character. Sort of the same thing happens here. Ultimately I went with Final Fantasy III over Final Fantasy VIII simply because it was way ahead of its time as far as endings in the video game industry.

Post a CommentWish I could add more to your list of best endings but here are some that I thought is interesting. In the arcade Killer Instinct 2 game, if you play through the whole game with a particular character and defeated Gargos you will get the default ending but if you accomplish other method you will get to see alternate FMV endings. For example if you play as Fulgore and killed Jago and Orchid during the whole game, after you defeat Gargos, Fulgore and the new Ultratech will be rebuild and the new corporation will rule the entire world thus changing the future of the timeline forever; however, if you killed Orchid and spar Jago, he will killed Fulgore during the ending, the same applies to Orchid. If Combo is killed he can't return home, if Glacius is killed, Cinder's legendary battle against his ancestor were never told since without the past Glacius, the lagacy of the future one never took place. If Spinal is killed, he won't be used by Ultratech to become evil also Thunder's brother, Ea
MGS3 tops all.
Except maybe Final Fantasy
Fun stuff!
What, you didn't like Mario saving the princess? Kidding - these are all great endings, too. :-)
