The 1,000 Acts of Love Challenge: Marriage

S. Ann
When you first started dating your spouse, chances are you took every small opportunity to show them how much you cared. You likely opened car doors for them, helped them carry groceries, never complained about dropping them off at the airport at 5 in the morning and showed random acts of love and kindness to them each day. The whole idea of dating is dependent upon showing your mate how much you care and how they can count on you to be there for them, no matter what. Successful dating relies on this type of behavior. However, as couples get more comfortable with each other and even get married, things can change. Do you think you have what it takes to take the 1,000 Acts of Love Challenge for your marriage?

What is the 1,000 Acts of Love Challenge?

This challenge is designed to help married people think about how they treat one another and foster stronger marriages by doing so. In marriages, these random acts of love shown during the dating phases often fade away. Perhaps you've fallen into a routine where these acts of kindness are almost completely non-existent. Maybe you feel as if you and your spouse pass in the hall, without even really connecting on a day to day basis. Chances are you still care (as does your spouse) but you're living a busy life where you don't think you have time to just sit together and show your love for your partner.

This challenge asks you to take the time to perform 1,000 Acts of Love each month for your partner. These Acts of Love don't need to be elaborate or expensive. Instead, they can be as simple as giving your spouse a small backrub after they've had a long day, offering to drop of the due library books on your way to work, taking over your child's bath time for an evening or even walking the dog for your spouse. When you think about it, 1,000 Acts of Love isn't an insane amount. You are very capable!

Why Should You Commit To This Challenge?

Today the divorce rate in America still hovers around 50%, with 1 out of every 2 marriages ending in divorce. Many relationship experts believe the key to a great marriage needs only one thing: respect. In this challenge, couples are more in tune with showing the respect they feel for their spouse. In turn, the spouse feels more necessary and appreciated and will then reciprocate these same Acts of Love without being asked or feeling stressed by doing so. When couples can respect each other, everything else just falls into place. There is no need to argue about small issues when you have respect and larger issues like adultery or lying just don't occur in respecting relationships. The Acts of Love Challenge can help couples get back to the place where they were when they were dating...the place where they fell in love!
