The 1969 Camaro - One of GM's Crowning Achievements

David C. Atkin
When Chevrolet released the 1969 Camaro; they had no idea that this car would out perform all of their expectations. The muscle car freaks loved the styling of this iconic muscle car. They poured in to the dealerships by the droves to see the new Camaro.

Still to this very day that 1969 Camaro has it's influence on the brand new 2010 Camaro. The 1969 Camaro featured sharper body lines down the side of the car then the two previous years. It also featured wider haunches that made the car look as if it sat lower to the ground.

The 1969 Camaro just seemed to look sportier in general then the two previous years of this iconic car. The grille was taller, and looked wider due to the protruding point in the center of it., The blinkers lights were moved to the lower valance panel, and this made the car look to have a lower stance also.

This car was bound to sell like wildfire, and that it did; it still does to this day. People spend a lot of time and money to find just the right 1969 Camaro. This was just the muscle car that could; during those days that car went way far and beyond what anybody expected.

It still lives on to this day; with homage being paid to it with the advent of the 2010 Camaro. The rears haunches feature 1969 Camaro identifying markers, like the 1969 fender vents, and the wide haunches. Not to mention the center console gauges in the car; they are a direct through back to the 1969 Camaro.

This car will always be remembered in the history of General Motors. As one of the best ideas ever created in a muscle car by Chevrolet. As long as there are guys like me on this earth; the 1969 Camaro will always have it's claim to fame.

In my humble opinion this car is still in it's glory day. I owned a 1969 Z/28 as a kid; I will never forget how much fun it was to drive that car. I will own one again some day; you can't get the same feeling from any car ever built.

This car was as much fun to drive as it was to look at. Most of the cars of today aren't really the greatest thing to look at. The big three still have the power to make people turn their heads when one of their muscle cars drives by.

But their still not works of art like their predecessors were. The classic cars just have a presence about them; something that makes them different from the cars of today. I love the fact that they have all paid homage to their classic muscle car heritage.

The 1969 Camaro will always be my favorite muscle car ever built. It will always hold a special place in my heart. That car is the very reason that I write these automotive articles; I hope that I can sway at least one person from getting rid of their classic car, or muscle car.

If my articles never do anything other then that; I have done my job in life. If just one person decides to restore their car, rather then selling it. I have performed above and beyond my calling in life. If I help just one person get their car restored; I have achieved my highest goal in life.
