The 2008 Oscar Nominees Are Announced

The 2008 Oscar nominees are announced: The list of 2008 Oscar Nominees provides for what will be an entertaining awards ceremony.

Noteables include George Clooney's nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Michael Clayton), giving Clooney his fourth nomination. Daniel Day-Lewis received his fourth nomination, as well, for There will Be Blood. Johnny Depp and Tommy Lee Jones, recipients of three nominations each, go against Clooney, Day-Lewis, and Viggo Mortensen for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

Cate Blanchett's busy year has landed her with her fifth nomination with the inclusion of Elizabeth: The Golden Age and I'm Not There (Best Actress and Supporting Actress, respectively). Julie Christie received her fourth nomination and Laura Linney received her third, both in the Leading Role category.

Viggo Mortensen gets his first nomination for Eastern Promises in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category. Casey Affleck also receives his first nod in the Supporting Role category. Tilda Swinton received her first nomination for her role in Michael Clayton as Best Supporting Actress.

The Coen brothers landed several nominations for No Country for Old Men, with several other films getting more than one nod. Among these are There Will Be Blood, Juno, Michael Clayton, The Diving Bell and The Butterfly, The Bourne Ultimatum, Atonement, and American Gangster.

Some family-friendly films seeing nominations include Ratatouille, Enchanted, The Golden Compass, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Transformers, and August Rush.
