I got to ride the 2009 Audi TT in the back seat, and I was not making it. Good thing the trip was about two miles. Any more, and I would've died! To be honest, I'm not such a small chap that will fit anywhere, but I know for sure that even the smallest of children will find it hard in there. Even with the driver or passenger seat pushed all the way forward, I still had trouble.
Things get good though, if you ignore the rear seats and pretend they're not there. In fact, if I was the one in charge of the TT, I would remove the rear seats altogether. They're not really there. You can't use them. I would put another engine in the middle, instead of the seats, and the car would be just the business.
Naturally, there are two engines you can choose from. A turbocharged four cylinder, or a V6. The 2.0L Inline-4 engine produces 200 horsepower, and the 3.2L V6 produces 250.
So, if you were trying to choose between the six options offered by Audi, which one would you choose? I'm sure the base model for just over $35,000 isn't the best choice you can make. It's got an S tronic gearbox. This option also comes with a roadster trim. If I were to shop, I would spend at least $37,000 for a Quattro. I know it's 2 grand more expensive, but it's worth it. If there was anyone who mastered a four-wheel system, it'd be Audi with the Quattro. But, if I was to really want to buy a TT, I would go for at least a 3.2 Quattro. Of course, at $42,000, it's not cheap, but it's the best you can get. The TT's no longer come with a manual gearbox, so if you're nostalgic for a manual, get the old TT and look like an idiot.
Now, if i had a little more money to play with, I'd spend about 43 grand on a 3.2 Quattro with an S tronic gearbox. Yes, it's got flappy-paddles, but at least they work. And before you think that I'm against all flappy-paddle gearboxes, I'm not. I've driven both manual and flappy-paddles before, and not all are absolute rubbish. Yes, there are a lot of cars with flappy-paddles that take an eternity to shift gears, but the ones Audi put in the TT actually work, and work well.
Finally, if I wanted to blow off some cash, I'd get a 3.2 Quattro S tronic roadster. But, I prefer a coupe any day. Roadsters tend to get wobbly and put on a bunch of weight.
So, is this the perfect car? Well, no; it isn't. Only one reason - it's got rear seats, which you can't use. Why put them there then? Just to claim that it's a four seater and rip everyone off? If I were to buy one of these, I would leave the rear seats in the dealership; if I find a way to take them out of there. Then, it would the be the perfect car!
