The 2009 Volkswagen CC

A Four-door Coupe from VW?

Serge Pupko
The only piece of excitement Volkswagen has to offer is the GTi. I have a slight suspicion they might be up to something with the CC as well. The thing is, the Jettas have always been boring boxes with wheels, and the Passats were always just bigger versions of the Jettas.

The CC is a bit different. It isn't a box. It looks like a two-door coupe! I don't have a problem with that because they don't claim it's a coupe with two extra doors, they are open about it being a coupe, and I respect that. The only four-door coupe that I really bought into is the Lamborghini Estoque. That's not a problem here, because although it does look a bit like the Mercedes CLS, but it doesn't shout about being some four-door coupe. I like that.

The car is also styled rather well. The new Jetta looks like an ugly duckling, and the passat doesn't look any better. This though, this has a menacing, yet very calm and inviting look. I can look at the exterior only once, from any angle, and I'll want one of these. For an all-rounder, this is a great car to be seen in.

On the inside, it's the same story. Very stylish, and very comfortable. Just looking at it gives me an idea of what it would feel like. On top of that, there's loads of space in the front and in the back. That means, you won't have passengers complaining about the legroom, even if they're not as small as Richard Hammond.

So, if the prices start at $27,100, and end at just under $40,000, what are you getting? Well, you get everything, really. The base trim with a 2.0 4 cylinder engine produces 200 horsepower, and you're not short of features. You can also have a Luxury version of the 2.0L for about $32,000. You do get more features with that. Also, because of the added weight, you do get a drop in fuel efficiency.

Things get a little more exciting with the VR6. You get a 3.6L V6 producing 280 horsepower! That's plenty to get you around really fast. That comes at around $37,000 out-of-pocket. But, if you go for the VR6, get the 4Motion for about $2,000 more. It's all-wheel drive, so you'll be able to put all that power down.

So, is there anything about this car that I don't like? Not really. I love this car inside out. I would want to go to a VW dealership and stand there starring at one of these for a couple hours. I know this is mad, but this car is really good looking.

I've been into cars for a long time now. It started as a little kid when I started drawing cars for fun. My cars, though, did not have guns and fins on them, well, most of them didn't, to say the least. I fo...  View profile
