The Oscars, also known as the Academy Awards, recognizes excellence in the film industry. Presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the awards have been in existence since its first show on May 16, 1929. Actors, writers, directors and other professionals were honored for outstanding achievements within the 2009 calendar year at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood on March 7, 2010. Actors Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin hosted the show.

The show did go overtime by a half hour. Fortunately, as soon as the last awards acceptance speech was given, Steve Martin, ever the professional, wrapped it up quickly.
