The 2010 Chevy Traverse

A Crossover SUV

Abby Greenhill
My husband and I have owned 3 Chevy Trailblazers in the last 9 years. We traded the first 2 in after 2 years because we couldn't pass up the fantastic trade-in we received. The 3rd, a 2007 model, we decided to hang onto for 3 or 4 years. I searched on-line to see what the 2010 Trailblazer looked like. That's when we found out Chevy stopped making them after the 2009 model. The replacement is a crossover SUV, namely the Chevy Traverse, which was introduced in 2009.

The Chevy dealer in town closed, so we had to go to Athens, Tennessee to look at a Chevy Traverse. We had a nice salesman, a non-pressure kind of guy. He asked if we wanted to test drive one and we took off in a white 2010 Chevy Traverse. My husband loved the power our Trailblazers had and he wasn't expecting the Traverse to have the same power. It fooled him; it has a lot of get up and go for a 6 cylinder engine.

We sat down with the salesman and went over the options we wanted or needed, and then the color became the issue. Our last three vehicles were gray and we wanted something totally different, so we chose red jewel. The Traverse has three rows of seats and we wanted the third row to be a bench seat. That combined with the red jewel color led to a tri-state search for the right vehicle. One was located in Georgia, so we went ahead and placed the order. The Chevy Traverse arrived at the dealership in Athens 2 days later and we picked it up as soon as we got the call.

The Traverse's front bucket seats are very comfortable, and the front is much roomier overall than the Trailblazers were. There is also a ton of storage. It's a much longer vehicle and it took a little getting used to. A crossover is said to make the occupants feel more like riding in a car as compared to riding in an SUV. I loved the feel of the SUV, but I admit the crossover SUV, the 2010 Chevy Traverse, is a more comfortable ride.

It is loaded with a navigation system, back-up camera, blue tooth technology and DVD player for the back rows. It has a Bose radio with 10 speakers. OnStar comes on all GM vehicles. The Traverse keeps track of how many gallons of gas we bought since day one. It displays the outside temperature and it tells you what your oil life is and if your tires have enough pressure. It has side curtain air bags. All passengers are protected with airbags.

The back of the vehicle, behind the second row, is the dog's area. She has double the amount of room she had in previous SUV's. It is cooler compared to the Trailblazer because it has rear AC and the vents on are the ceiling. The driver and passenger have individual heat/ac controls. My husband can be as warm as he wants, while I keep the AC on sub-freezing. It came with XM radio free for a few months.

We learn something new about the Chevy Traverse every time we get in the vehicle. This is our first vehicle that isn't 4 wheel drive, although you can get it in 4-WD. Ours is front wheel drive, which took a little adjustment for my husband. Radio controls are on the radio as well as on the steering wheel. It has a remote start, not a necessity in the south, but for your northerners it would be a great feature.

The price starts around $22,000. Depending on the options you want, a Chevy Traverse can run you up to $40,000. Colors include: dark blue, gray, silver, gold, white, dark cherry, black. Red jewel, our color, is an extra cost. They advertise it at 17 mpg city, but we are getting 20 mph city. We have not taken it for a long highway run yet. It has a 3.6L SIDI V6 engine packed with 281 horsepower. A Chevy warranty of 5 years//100,000 miles is another selling feature. The Trailblazers only had a 2 year/36,000 mile warranty.

After owning the Chevy Traverse for just about 2 months, we would recommend it to anyone looking for a crossover vehicle. Its good looking, well equipped and it has a comfortable ride. The 2010 Chevy Traverse, a crossover SUV. See you on the highway. Buy American vehicles and keep our citizens working!

Good review. I rented one once. I thought it was a comfy and smooth ride. I thought it was a little awkward getting into. Overall, I liked it and agree with your observations.

Cool! I have a Lumina - I guess they don't make them anymore, either, but it's been a good car.

Chevrolet (GM) makes a good product, but poor labor union contracts.
