The 2010 Dodge Viper ACR-X

A 640 Horsepower Track Star

How about a sports car on steroids, that's what you will be getting from the Dodge Viper ACR X. The Dodge Motor Co. has promised at the Los Angeles auto show a few race inspired variation's of the Dodge Viper for the 2010 model year. One such variation is the 2010 Dodge Viper ACR X which is a track tuned Viper specifically for enthusiasts that are looking to have some unique track times at Willow Springs, the Dodge Viper ACR X is not priced for the faint of heart at $110,000 base price.

The Dodge Viper ACR X is based on the highly placed wild winged American Club race car. The Viper ACR X continues to have the same 8.4 Liter ten cylinder developed by SRT, however the ACR X gets a mild boost in power of 40 hp from a set of factory tuned headers and a free-flowing exhaust which combined with its already extremely high power output creates a 640 hp untamable monster of an engine. When you combine the added horsepower with a weight savings of 160 pounds despite the addition of a race inspired roll cage you will get quite a kick in the pants when on the track. However, you won't be able to enjoy your Dodge Viper ACR X with a passenger since it comes race prepped with only one bucket racing seat. Other additions to the Dodge Viper ACR X are a Momo Corse steering wheel and self sealing fuel cell in case you get out of control with your 640 hp on tap all the time. You most likely will not see the Dodge Viper ACR X until it is premiered on track until the summer of 2010.

Unfortunately, for most enthusiasts the Dodge Viper ACR X is not meant to be street legal as it is a turnkey racecar, however with a few modifications one could make it street legal or at least make it pass for street legal. But, like most Vipers it is not really designed for the street especially with its harsh suspension, no AC option, and 9 miles per gallon fuel economy; which isn't very economical if you're driving more than 10 miles to and from work. Ralph Gilles the president and CEO of the Dodge brand said "the Dodge Viper ACR X takes the performance attributes of a Viper to an even higher level for a wide range of drivers starting with grassroots racers all the way up to professional drivers; this project is a result of many years of performance engineering expertise from the SRT team, combined with the passion and dedication of the Viper nation to keep the Viper racing tradition going on tracks all around the world."

The Dodge Viper ACR X is a combination of performance characteristics of the record-setting street legal Dodge Viper ACR (American Club Racer) and the safety components of the championship winning Viper Competition Coupe. Suspension components on the Viper ACR X such as struts, springs, sway bars, strut tower bracing and roll cage have made the ACR X superior to its little brother the Dodge Viper when on the track. Lightweight racing wheels and sticky high-performance tires also make the ACR X asphalt grabbing monster. Along with the weight reduction of 160 pounds the ACR X also receives additional aerodynamic components to improve down force while significantly improving tire grip and high-speed cornering.

In what will be the final year of production for the current generation Viper, the ACR-X is the third limited, special-edition model to be introduced by Dodge. ""We're going to make 2010 the most exciting year for Viper yet with specially developed cars for the street and the track," added Gilles. "The ACR-X is targeted at road-racing enthusiasts who want to successfully compete in our ultimate American race car.
