The sweat was pouring from player's faces thanks to the 90 degree weather. Water breaks were plentiful and the mood was light, which is expected for the initial practice. However, coaches only have a month to prepare for the opening game August 21st.
Most of the players have been together for quite some time, but there are a few new faces that could make an impact on the team in 2010. Getting each player to abide by the coaches fundamentals will be crucial to their success, and embedding this into all the youngsters seemed to be the goal Monday night.
After a little conditioning in the beginning, players were split up into two groups. Lineman found themselves getting a refreshers course on being set, not jumping early, and providing a few strong hits. The adrenaline was definitely flowing, and at times the parents were even cheering on each player.
The other side of the field was filled with potential quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers. Everything from handing off correctly and making cuts at wide receiver, to quarterbacks holding the ball and drop-stepping the right way were taught throughout the hour and a half practice.
In the end everything was light and playful, but still serious at the same time. The kids were smiling, occasionally laughing, and cheering each other on like football players do at any training camp. Overall, it was a good start to the upcoming Hamilton Little Blue Bulldogs football season.
