The 2010 Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Low

For a Small Bike, the 2010 Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Low Just Seems to Have it All

Don Kress
In 2009 and in 2010, Harley Davidson has taken quite a hit. Closing plants, tumbling stock price and the erosion of market share due to a lack of riders purchasing new Harley Davidson Motorcycles have all sent investors running scared. Soldiering on, however, the 2010 Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Low is, as always, a great entry level bike that offers not only outstanding ergonomics and power, but a very un-Harley-esque price tag. Depending on your preference for color, pricing for the 2010 Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Low starts out very low indeed. Price isn't the only benefit to be had in the ownership of the 2010 Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Low, however. You'll find the Sportster 883 Low provides more than adequate fuel economy, at 60 miles per gallon on the highway and 45 in the city, making it highly competitive against small-displacement bikes from such makers as Honda, Suzuki, and Triumph.

The 2010 Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Low features the 883 cubic centimeter Evolution engine backed up by a five speed transmission. The 2010 Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Low engine produces 55 ft/lbs of torque at a nice, low 3,500 rpm, giving you plenty of room on the top end for passing, and comfortable cruising with the signature 883 sound when you feel no immediate need to get around the guy in front of you. The engine is fed via an electronic sequential port fuel injection system that one-ups the older carbureted bikes not only in the fuel economy and power range, but also allowing you the ability to get the 2010 Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Low started up on those chilly summer mornings that you just can't help but take advantage of.

As for colors, the 2010 Harley Davidson Sportster 883 low is available in four, with the Vivid black option being the least expensive. All the other colors cost more, but give you a range of options to suit (most) tastes. Available colors on the 2010 Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Low include Scarlet Red, Brilliant Silver Pearl, Flame Blue Pearl, and of course, Vivid Black. Some other options on the 2010 Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Low include a security system, California emissions, and special custom wheels. Expect to spend $100-$500 each for the addition of these options to your 2010 Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Low. In Vivid Black, the 2010 Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Low has an MSRP of $6999, a price unchanged from the 2009 model. Gone for 2010 is the previous year's 6-speed transmission, likely dumped in exchange for not upping the price in a year that is proving to be a difficult one. Color options on the 2010 Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Low sit comfortably at $7,289, still a good price for an entry-level bike right off the showroom floor, particularly one that is as endlessly customizable as the 2010 Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Low is.
