The 2010 Maryland Race for Governor

Amanda Lay
It's that time of year again. The time for accusations and political attack ads is upon us. Only one more week to go before Election Day. In Maryland, the race for Governor between current Governor Martin O'Malley and former Governor Robert Erlich is very close and contentious.

During his time as Governor of Maryland from 2002-2005, former Governor Robert Erlich and former Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele were advocates of many important issues such as Education and Disability Rights. Within the past year, voters approved the opening of slot machines in Maryland. Proceeds from the slot machines go to supplement Maryland's budget, which is currently experiencing a major deficit.

Similar to Bob Erlich, Governor O'Malley has been a major supporter of Education. According to his website, Governor O'Malley has supported Education financially during his Administration by investing 5.7 billion dollars in Maryland's schools this year alone.

An affordable college education is also a high priority to Governor O'Malley. Since taking office, he has invested $462 million dollars in tuition assistance programs and thirty five percent more of Maryland's budget in Higher Education. Moreover, college tuition in Maryland has not been subjected to an increase while Governor O'Malley has been in office. Each voter is blessed with the freedom to cast their vote. On November second, Marylanders will raise their voices by casting their vote for the next Governor of Maryland.
