The 2010 MLB Schedule Released

It Appears that the 2010 MLB Schedule Will Focus on Yankees vs. Red Sox Match-Up

The 2010 MLB schedule is out for all 30 clubs. The 2010 MLB schedule also appears to be driving up interest in the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox rivalry as not only will they start out the season playing each other, they are also going to end the season playing each other. In between all of that, there is the chance to possibly see Stephen Stasburg pitch for the Washington Nationals, the Philadelphia Phillies defend their back-to-back world championships (yes, we are announcing here that Philadelphia is going to win the 2009 World Series), and even an outdoor game for the Minnesota Twins. Now we have to actually decide if we care about the Yankees and Red Sox rivalry anymore.

For people who are fans of the Yankees or Red Sox, the revelation that they will open and close the 2010 MLB season against each other might be exciting. For the rest of us in the baseball world, it just provides another tiring opportunity for SportsCenter and everyone else at ESPN to bore us to death with statistics about the two teams playing head to head. Maybe if ESPN wasn't located in the New England area they would care less about the Red Sox and their opponents, but for those of us who live on the West Coast (or in the south, or in Middle America) we really have stopped caring about the Yankees and Red Sox making every headline on SportsCenter. Maybe they should branch out their home offices a bit to give more coverage to some of the other teams that the American League has to offer.

What I plan to be more attuned to, and many other fans may actually care more about, is that the Minnesota Twins are moving out of their former stadium into new Target Field, and possibly having a very interesting opening weekend in their new digs. Others may care more about their own home teams (more likely) and where they are opening up their 2010 season. Then there are the inter-league games that still provide some interesting match-ups, and we will get to see the Reds and Indians play, the Dodgers and the Tigers, and of course the Cubs vs. the White Sox. The 81st annual All-Star game is going to take place on July 13th at Angel Stadium, and will mark the opportunity for the American League to extend their winning streak at the big game.

The 2010 MLB schedule gets started with opening day on Monday, April 5th, 2010. Times are still up in the air for a majority of the games, but look for quite a few of them to be on national television so that people can get a glimpse of their teams starting out the new campaign. Some very interesting questions are going to be answered in the next baseball off-season, and those answers will start to reveal themselves in the spring of 2010. Will the Nationals be overanxious and bring up their #1 draft pick too early? Will the Mariners earn their high paychecks? Will the New York Mets escape colossal collapse again? Tune in on April 5th to find out!
