The 2010 Do Something Awards

About the Awards
Do Something has been providing their awards since 1996 and this year they've teamed up with VH1 to air the awards ceremony live on July 19, 2010. Do Something provides awards for the best "world-changers" aged 25 and under. The awards support those making an effort to go out and well...doing things. Do Something does its best to honor those young individuals striving to make the world a better place.

Finalists
This July 19th one of these five people will be given the Do Something award for their actions. Each one has contributed greatly to their causes and heres a little information on each one.

Jessica Posner
The largest slum in Africa is located in Kibera where nearly two thirds of women learn to trade sexual favors for food at an early age. Co-Founder of the Shining Hope Community Center and the Kibera School for Girls Jessica has helped nearly 6,000 local residents obtain education and employment.

Jacqueline Murekatete
When she was nine she became an orphan as a product of the genocide in Rwanda. Three years ago she founded her own Human Rights Corner and has since delivered over a hundred speeches at high schools around the country and become a "face of survival".

Micaela Connery,
Micaela currently runs 13 different theater programs in various states and has helped over a thousand young people with physical and developmental disabilities become involved in theater through her Unified Theater program.

Wilfredo Perez Jr.
Wilfredo is the first person in his family to graduate from High School and he's now in training to be a doctor. Prior to beginning med school he visited Haiti and began a public health and education program training 16 local Haitians as health workers and treating more than a thousand patients for a variety of conditions.

Mark Rembert
In 2008 one of the larger employers in Ohio shut down. As a response Mark launched Energize Clinton County which has brought in 1.4 million dollars in investment into the area to help with the counties unemployment rate which sky rocketed up to 19% after the shut down.

Other Categories
Apart from the primary award grant Do Something is also offering awards in various categories that perform spectacularly in their field and are trying to Do Something to change the world for the better. These categories are Movie Star, TV Show, Music Artist, Athlete, Comedian, With Style, Facebook, City and Docu Style (Documentaries). Various finalists in each of these categories includes Lady Gaga, Glee, the Jonas Brothers, Salt Lake City, Ellen Degeneres and Natalie Portman.
