The 2011 Movies I Look Forward to Seeing

Upcoming Films that Hopefully Will Put 2010 to Utter Shame

Ben Kenber
2010, is now history, and thank goodness! Sure, there were some great movies, but the stench from the bad ones will take forever to clean out of our consciousness. Here's hoping 2011 is a much, much better year at your local movie theater. These are some that I already look forward to seeing:

The Green Hornet

I think this has been in development ever since I was born (never mind my age). Seth Rogen and director Michel Gondry have done what others failed to do; they finally brought "The Green Hornet" to the silver screen. Having listened to the radio drama as a kid, I am very eager to check it out. Only downside: it's opening in January, the month where Hollywood has nothing but junk to release.

John Carpenter's The Ward

Sooner or later this sucker's going to come out! John Carpenter's first feature length movie since 2001's "Ghosts Of Mars" hasn't gotten much love from the critics, but that always seems to be the case in America. Just remember what the man said:

"This is an old school horror movie from an old school director."

The Beaver

Anything with Jodie Foster has me at hello, and she directs as well as stars in this film with Mel Gibson as a depressed businessman who starts using a hand puppet to communicate with people. Despite Gibson's pariah status, this looks too good to pass up.

Sucker Punch

Snyder has described it as "Alice In Wonderland with machine guns." The trailer alone, which looks like a gender reversal of "300," already has me impatiently waiting for it to open.

Thor

I don't know much about this Marvel Comics hero making his big screen appearance, but it's directed by Kenneth Branagh, and that's all I need to get me super excited. That and Natalie Portman!

Scream 4

Kevin Williamson thankfully returns along with Wes Craven, and it'll be fun to see what they make of the last decade of horror films. You know it wouldn't be worth watching if these guys weren't involved!

Pirates Of The Carribean: On Stranger Tides

I glad Bloom and Knightley opted out of this one. This makes the lastest movie in the franchise look like a rebirth as the focus goes back to Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow. Geoffrey Rush also returns, and this should be infinitely better than the washout that was "At World's End."

X-Men: First Class

"Wolverine" sucked, but this time Bryan Singer returns as producer with "Kick Ass" director Matthew Vaughan. It is a prequel, but one that looks to be worth watching.

Green Lantern

I am not familiar with the DC Comics version, but with "Casino Royale" director Martin Campbell behind the camera, this should hopefully live up to its hype.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, Part 2

Need I say why?

The Tree Of Life

The latest from Terence Malick looks to be another visionary classic along the lines of "Days Of Heaven." It's nice to see that he's not taking a break of 20 years between each film anymore.

Super 8

Like with "Cloverfield," we have no idea what's in store. But with J.J. Abrams directing and Steven Spielberg producing, it should be anything but boring.

On The Road

A film version of Jack Kerouac's classic book FINALLY is brought to the silver screen. What took them so long?!

Cars 2

The first one was one of Pixar's weakest movies. However, the trailer makes this one look all the more entertaining. Besides, it's Pixar!!!

I am an actor and writer, and they both serve to keep me sane in an increasingly insane world. I mostly write movie reviews, but sometimes I try to go outside of that to write something else.  View profile

None of them make me too excited. Scream 4 has my curiosity, but generally I am let down by Hollywood playing with beloved older movies series.

Cars 2? Hm... nope. But why didn't anyone mention Black Swan? Or was that 2010?
