2011 Westminster Dog Show Date, Time, Channel, and Six New Breeds
The Boykin Spaniel, which is in the sporting group of dogs, was first breed in the early 1900's. The dog was bred in the Midlands of South Carolina for local waterfowl hunters. The Official dog of South Carolina is the Boykin Spaniel.
The Bluetick Coonhound, will enter the Hound group this year for the first time. This dog was bred to help in trailing and treeing raccoons and other small game.
The Redbone Coonhound, this is another dog entering the Hound group. They are used in hunting game from raccoons to bear. This dog dates back to the Civil War when it was bred for its looks as well as its performance in the woods.
The Cane Corso, is a dog entered into the working group. This is an ancient Italian breed of dog This breed was almost at extinction in the early 70's, but working dogs from rural farms helped the breed recover.
The Leonberger, is another dog entered into the working dog group. This large dog is known for its size and muscular frame, but it is also a graceful dog. This dog originated from Germany in the mid nineteenth century and was usually kept as a farm dog.
The Icelandic Sheepdog, is part of the Herding group this year. This dog first arrived in Iceland with the Viking settlers. This is a very alert dog, so visitors will usually get a bark from this dog as they make their way up to your front door.
These are the six new Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show breeds that have been added this year.
The Westminster Dog Show can be seen in two parts on USA Network. The first is Monday February 14, 2011 at 8pm - 9pm EST. The remainder of the live Westminster Dog Show on Monday night can be seen on CNBC from 9pm EST - 11pm EST.
The second day is Tuesday February 15, 2011 at 8pm EST - 11pm EST which can be seen entirely on USA network.
