The 2011 Wisconsin Quilt Expo

Escape. Create. Celebrate

Sandy James

I know that there are many quilters and non-quilters out there who enjoy going to local quilt shows. Seeing the works of other people is fascinating and very interesting. It can sometimes be mind boggling to see what someone can do with fabric and thread and that's why attending the Wisconsin Quilt Expo will be lots of fun and a learning experience.

The Wisconsin Public Television has announced the Wisconsin Quilt Expo for this year and it'll be in September. Master Quilter, Nancy Zieman from her own show, "Sewing With Nancy" will be there giving a lecture or two. Nancy Zieman has become a household name in the quilting industry and she'll be there to offer tips and tricks and to mingle with other quilters.

The Wisconsin Quilt Expo offers 144 different one-hour lectures where quilters can learn tips, tricks, short-cuts, techniques, and learning different ways to quilt. We all quilt differently, and sometimes we can pick up an easier way of doing things. Each lecture is just $10.

There'll be hands on workshops in quilt design, beading, hand quilting, and other topics. No sewing machines needed and the price for the workshops are $30-$35 plus the kit or pattern fee.

Mari Stori, an internationally recognized quilter and fashion designer will be there to loosen you up so that you're not so serious while quilting. Mari believes that mistakes are opportunities to create something unique. Wow! It's nice to know that I have a room full of unique quilts!

Also, 3-D textures will be presented by Rami Kim, a DNA scientist turned international award-winning fabric artist and quilter. This is sure to be one of those mind-boggling presentations.

The Wisconsin Quilt Expo will be September 8-10 at the Exhibition Hall at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin.

Tickets and registration to any of the workshops begins on Monday, July 11 where you can phone in your order or go online. Tickets will be sold until Monday, Sept 5th at 5 PM. Their phone number is 800-253-1158 or you can click on Wisconsin Quilt Expo to register online or get more information.
