The 2012 Armageddon Theory

Josh Maloof
The year 2012 is rapidly approaching, and with it, comes the threat of December 21 Armageddon. Now, December 21, 2012 was predicted by the Mayans as 'the end of time,' where the God's would rain down all sorts of items upon earth.

Now, to understand the stupidity behind this theory, we must first understand the Long Count Mayan Calendar First, imagine a machine with five slots. The slot furthest on the right counts the number od days. The Mayans used the number 20,because we had 20 fingers and toes, so every 20 days, the slot farthest to the right ticks over, going from 20 to 1, and the second slot goes up by 1.

The Mayans also figured out that 18×20 is 360, which is a good estimation for the amount of days in the year. So the second slot counts to 18, before it moves the third slot up by one. The fourth and final spots both count up to 20, so every 144,000 days, the end slot goes up by one.

So, taking into consideration that the Mayans belive the universe began on 11 August 3114 BC, the day December 21, 2012, will be the day all the slots are filled up and the first slot ticks back to one. Now, the small bunch of conspiracy theorists and whack-jobs belive the clock will not tick over because its full, hence the end of the universe.

Still, the Russians might blow up Earth with nuclear weapons on December 21, 2012, but we know 3 things for sure:

1. No one has convinced us that the world began on the 11th of August 3114 BC

2. The Mayans actually did not predict the world would end in 2012

3. There are several instances where the Mayans have used dates beyond 2012. All they do is reset the clock and add 1 to the first slot.
