The 2012 summer season at the St. Louis Muny Opera is loaded with premieres. The oldest and largest outdoor musical play theater west of the Mississippi river begins it's 95Th season on June 18Th.

Located in Forest Park, the Muny offers seven musical plays this summer season. It offers entertainment for people of all ages. You can tour the facility, have dinner and then attend a show. The great thing about the Muny is that they have 1500 free seats available on a first come first serve basis. Low on funds, no problem. Just arrive early and take a seat.

This summer features five premieres and two returning plays. Below is a list of the seven productions and their highlights.

Thoroughly Modern Millie (June 18-24) Premiere; It is the winner of six Tony Awards, including best musical. This musical is filled with dancing and music from the 1920's. Small town girl hits New York city.

Chicago (June 25-July 1) Premiere; Picked number one on the Muny survey for years, it finally reaches the stage. This is both a Tony and Oscar winner. It is a hilarious tale of how murder can feed a celebrity.

Aladdin (July 5-13) Premiere; The Disney epic comes to the outdoor stage inn St. Louis. The children will love this production.

Dreamgirls (July 16-22) Premiere; The winner of six Tony's and two Oscars hits the stage for the first time, too in St. Louis. If you like R&B, you'll love Dreamgirls.

Joseph and the amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (July 23-29); Last here in 2007, this beloved generational biblical classic returns.

Pirates (July 30- August 5) Premiere; A curse, swashbuckling and a Caribbean comedy. A remake of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance.

The King and I (August 6-12); Last seen here in 2006, this East meets West musical is a classic to end the outdoor season. This Rodgers and Hammerstein production includes some very good classics.
