Red Robin
I must admit, when Red Robin first came to town I thought it was going to be too expensive for our little town but I have since grown to love it. The prices are very reasonable, the atmosphere is very "Sports Bar" like yet still has family appeal, and the food is fantastic.
The first time I went a new waitress dropped a loaded tray of strawberry lemonade in my lap. They gave us free meals for everyone in our party of 5 - what a treat! In spite of that chilly first impression I still love to go there!
Their burgers are truly "gourmet" and come with bottomless (all you can eat) steak fries. I usually tack on a cup of soup too. The French Onion is my favorite. They always have a new specialty burger for you try like the current Whisky River BBQ burger with BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese, crispy onion straws and lettuce, tomato, and mayo. A real deal at only $5.95 for the meal!
Anyone looking to watch their weight can go to the corporate site at www.redrobin.com where they have a nice little app you can use to calculate the calories and nutrition in your meal. You can decide what you are going to have before you go so you won't be tempted when you get there!
In my town of Abilene Texas they are located at 3549 Catclaw drive right by the Shops of Abilene. They are open Sunday through Thursday from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm and Friday to Saturday from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm. Call them at 325-695-5700 if you are in town!
Cotton Patch Café
One would not usually think of Cotton Patch for burgers but they have some of the best around! They are called Premium Steakhouse Burgers and they are fantastic! They are only $6.99 and come with fries or a cup of soup. They have blue cheese burgers, cheddar burgers, and even a three cheese bacon burger!
The atmosphere is very laid back and family friendly. Drinks are reasonable and the service is always fantastic! Their full menu can be seen on their web site at www.cottonpatch.com. You can also go to the web site to sign up for special web-only discounts and specials.
They have 37 locations across Texas and New Mexico. They are located in my town of Abilene Texas at 3302 South Clack St. and you can call them at 325-691-0509 if you are in town! They are open Sunday: 10:30am - 9pm, Monday: 11am - 9:30pm, Tuesday: 11am - 9:30pm, Wednesday: 11am - 9:30pm, Thursday: 11am - 9:30pm, Friday: 11am - 10pm, Saturday: 11am - 10pm.
Texas RoadHouse
I really have to be in the mood for the Texas RoadHouse to go because they are one of those restaurants that encourage you to throw peanut shells on the floor. I am a very compulsive ADHD kinda person and I want to just grab the broom every time I enter the doors!
Despite the laid back "party" atmosphere they have a great menu with very reasonable prices. They have a prominent bar in the center of the restaurant so "family friendly" hours would not necessarily include times like Saturday night unless your family is used to a rowdier crowd. Your meal will start with a wood block of home made bread and honey butter as well as a bucket of roasted peanuts for you to snack on. They have a smaller selection of burgers but they are honest stick to the ribs kind of fare!
Their ½ pound burgers are served on a Texas-sized bun with steak fries and a pickle spear. They offer the All-American Cheddar Burger (½ lb. burger topped with cheddar cheese, shredded lettuce, sliced tomato, and onions. Add bacon, chili, sautéed mushrooms, or sautéed onions for 79¢ each.) and the Smokehouse Burger (½ lb. fresh ground chuck with sautéed mushrooms, onions, BBQ Sauce, jack cheese, and cheddar cheese, and topped with shredded lettuce and sliced tomato). My daughter favors the cheeseburger while I gravitate more towards the Smokehouse burger. Check out their web site at www.texasroadhouse.com for a look at their full menu
In my town they are located at 1381 S. Danville Road just next to the highway access road. If you are in town you can call them at 325-690-0145. They hours of operation are Monday through Thursday 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm, Friday 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm, Saturday 11:00 am to 11:00 pm, and Sunday 11:00 am to 10:00 pm.
