Pointe Magazine
Obviously, Pointe Magazine is geared towards ballet dancers (hence the name). I'm not a ballet dancer, but I still find the information in Pointe Magazine highly relevant. The advice in this dance magazine regarding auditioning, improving flexibility, dancing on different types of stages and much more is helpful background knowledge for my endeavors in contemporary dancing. Anybody trying to break into a career in ballet should definitely subscribe to Pointe Magazine and read it faithfully. There are no other dance magazines or publications that can come close to Pointe Magazine in its ability to compile mass amounts of information on intensives, scholarships, auditions and other information that can lead a dancer to a job or scholarship.
Dance Spirit Magazine
Dance Spirit Magazine is mostly geared towards younger dancers in their pre-teens or teens. I found Dance Spirit Magazine to be extremely helpful when I danced on a competition line at my dance studio. I read several dance magazines, but I relied on Dance Spirit Magazine for reading about dance fashion, getting great dance hairstyle ideas, dealing with difficult dance instructors, getting me through dance competitions and almost any other topic related to dancing. I still love to read Dance Spirit Magazine because it features so many wonderful interviews with professional dancers. This is the dance magazine to read if you want to get the scoop on dancers from Dancing With the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance-they often are on the front cover of Dance Spirit Magazine and you can learn a lot about them in the lengthy interviews.
Dance Magazine
Dance Magazine is considered the best go-to dance magazine for professional dancers, aspiring dancers or those who can't dance but love to watch it anyways. Dance magazine does a wonderful job of covering all styles of dance, including hip hop, ballet, jazz, ballroom, Broadway, contemporary, tap, clogging, and even Bollywood! The advice found in these pages can help aspiring dancers ace auditions or recover from a dance injury. Dance Magazine also includes a ton of information about various dance conservatories and companies across the world. The interviews with dancers from all disciplines are fascinating and inspirational. If you only subscribe to one of the many dance magazines, I definitely suggest you go with Dance Magazine, a worthy investment for anybody serious about dance.
