The 300 Workout (a.k.a. Spartan Workout) Can Help You Lose Weight Over the Holidays

Get the Same Body as Gerard Butler from the Movie 300

The holidays bring about a multitude of stimulating things for every personality to enjoy. They also bring with them a certain amount of dread over all those goodies we will allow ourselves to indulge in.

While some can maintain a certain amount of willpower over holiday cookies, cakes and cocktails, others of us can't and must rely on the ageless New Year's resolution: Lose weight, work out. Work out, lose weight.

For those who believe a resolution tomorrow is enough to let loose and eat an extra piece of pie or toss back another spiked eggnog, I applaud you. For others, there is no time like now to get started on the almighty workout and diet plan and to begin determined search for the workout program that will help them look like a star.

This year's hit movie "300" gave viewers a history lesson and a good look at what happens when you work your ass off. No search has been more popular than the "300" Workout or Spartan Workout that actor Gerard Butler endured to get his six-pack abs and bulging muscles as the powerful King Leonides.

In case you're not familiar with this grueling workout, let me introduce you - but not without a warning. This workout is not for the faint of heart or the everyday pansy. This workout is for the serious masochist looking to put their bodies through some very hard work.

The workout takes its name from the amount or total number of repetitions you do of each exercise. And by the way, there is no rest in between sets, so don't go overexert yourself if this is your first time. It is strongly recommended that you work up to this routine:

The "300" Workout

25 pull-ups

50 deadlifts at 135 pounds

50 push-ups

50 box jumps with a 24-inch box

50 "floor wipers" (a core and shoulders exercise at 135 pounds)

50 "clean and press" at 36 pounds (a weight-lifting exercise)

25 more pull-ups -- for a total of 300 reps

Just in case you are put off by this workout (and I can't say I blame you), you could always try a Navy Seal workout or steal from another Hollywood actor and do the same routine Ryan Reynolds does to get his killer abs. Anyway you work it, just make sure you are doing something... spring is closer than you think.
