Penultimate is the best-selling handwriting app for the iPad and was one of the first to hit the scene. Notability - $2.99

Notability is primarily a text based note taking iPad app, but it also provides an option to handwrite notes as well. At the very affordable price of $2.99, PaperDesk is a great handwriting notes app and although it doesn't have as many features as Notes Plus, it has more than enough to make for a great free-hand note taking app.
