The 5 Best '80s Christmas Movies of All Time

The Best Classic '80s Christmas Movies

Stacy Hensley
There were some great Christmas movies that came out in the '80s. It was pretty hard to narrow it down to just 5, but somehow I managed to do it. Here is my list of the 5 best '80s Christmas movies of all time. They are not in any particular order, because they were all great in their own way.(And because I couldn't choose a favorite, so I wimped out!)

The 5 Best '80s Christmas Movies-National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

Released in 1989, this hilarious Christmas movie follows the antics that take place as the Griswold family prepare to have a nice family Christmas. For Clark Griswold, played by Chevy Chase, nothing ever seems to go his way. After the arrival of some unwanted holiday guests, and the news that he will not receive a Christmas bonus from his job, Clark snaps. This movie will have you laughing from beginning to end.

The 5 Best '80s Christmas Movies-A Christmas Story

Released in 1983, this classic Christmas movie follows Ralphie, played by Peter Billingsley, in his quest to get an official Red Ryder carbine-action 200-shot range model BB rifle with a compass in the stock for Christmas. Unfortunately, his mom, his teacher, and even Santa Claus tell Ralphie that he will shoot his eye out.

The 5 Best '80s Christmas Movies-Scrooged

This 1988 classic Christmas movie follows Frank Cross, played by Bill Murray, who doesn't have any Christmas spirit. Then he is visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future, who help him realize that it's time for a change.

The 5 Best '80s Christmas Movies-Prancer

Prancer was released in 1989. Jessica, played by Rebecca Harrell, still believes in Santa Claus. She finds an injured reindeer and believes it is Prancer, so she hides the reindeer in the barn until she can return it to Santa. Her dad discovers the reindeer in the barn and decides to sell it to the butcher .

The 5 Best '80s Christmas Movies-Santa Claus, The Movie

This 1985 movie chronicles how Santa Claus, played by David Huddleston, went from being a peasant woodcutter to becoming Santa Claus. The movie starts in the early 14th century and works it way to modern times. It also stars Dudley Moore as Patch and John Lithgow as B.Z.

Christmas is a great time to spend a few hours with the family watching these classic Christmas movies. These are my choices for the 5 best '80s Christmas movies of all time, there were other good movies that didn't make the list for me, but might make your list.

National Lampoon and A Christmas Story are definitely at the top of my list -- never cared much for the others, though. Thanks for sharing these! :-)
