The New $5 Bill Debuts

Danielle L
The government is always trying to make it impossible to counterfeit the money. In this effort they have release a new $5 bill in to circulation today.

The new $5 as a security thread to the right of the portrait. The bill also has a watermark, but instead of it being the face of the president, it is of the number 5, along with a second watermark of three 5's, one on top of the other to the opposite side of the portrait of Lincoln. The new bill also has the new coloring and has more pale purple then many of the bills printed before it.

This bill will make a great addition to collector's collection. What do you mean it's just a plain five dollar bill? On the contrary, the US mint is changing the bills we use so much that sometime soon these will be out of print, too. A great collector must collect new bills.

First, we have the new $20, $10 and now the new $5. A new $100 will follow later this year, and a new $50 shortly after that. Once these bills go out of printing they will slowly disappear from being worn and torn and collectors.

Eventually the banks will take them out of circulation completely and you will see them advertised on the TV commercials as a collector's items and wonder why you didn't think of that. Now, if you do decide to do this, make sure you get the bills from the bank in mint condition. Keep them safe and flat do not fold them.

Make sure you collect coins to your collection, too. They have new $1 coins that are given as change when you buy stamps at the post office. Also, get a full collection of the newest coins and the half dollars and silver dollars.

These will all be worth more money than face value some day -- maybe not you, but probably to your grandkids or their grandkids. This is a hobby you can pass down to then and share with them. You will get your bonding time and they will get a great hobby and an amazing collection from you.

As you can see, you don't have to collect the coins you see on the infomercials to make a decent collection. Many of those coins aren't worth anything anyway and you will lose money in the long run.
