The 5 Dangers of Drinking Too Much Coffee

I have managed to cut out most of my bad habits over the last couple of years, but my one remaining addiction is coffee. I don't seem to be able to function without the stuff, and probably go through about ten cups a day. I would imagine that all this caffeine isn't doing my body much good so I have decided to investigate the matter further. Here are five dangers of drinking too much coffee;

1. Too much coffee leads to insomnia. This is due to the fact that a lot of caffeine encourages your adrenal gland to produce a lot of adrenaline which puts your body in an alert state and make it difficult to relax. This problem is compounded by the fact that coffee is a diuretic which cause us to pass urine frequently. It can be hard to have a peaceful nights sleep when you keep on needing to go to the bathroom throughout the night.

2. Too much coffee can lead to your adrenal gland becoming overworked. The caffeine forces your adrenal gland to be always on the go and eventually this can become too much and leads to your whole body feeling exhausted. Your body has to eventually pay a price for all that adrenaline pumping through your body.

3. High blood sugar levels. All the adrenaline in your body burns up energy, which the mind will combat by producing cravings for sugar. If you eat a lot of sugar then you could be on your way to developing type 2 diabetes. The fact that many people have sugar with their coffee makes the whole thing more damaging for your your body.

4 Dehydration. Caffeine is a diuretic which means that it encourages your body to produce urine. This means that all though you might be drinking cup after cup of coffee you still might not be getting enough liquid. Rather than providing fluid to your body, too much coffee cause you to lose fluid.

5. Withdrawals. Like any other drug which causes dependence, withdrawal from caffeine can be a nasty affair. If you are unable to consume the amount of coffee that you are used to then your body might rebel by producing all type of symptoms such as loss of concentration or headaches. Addiction is never a good thing and caffeine addiction has many negative consequences.

These five consequences of drinking too much coffee are likely only the tip of the ice-berg. It is certainly a bit scary and all the more reason for me to redouble my efforts to quit coffee for good.
