The first step is teaching your dog to "lay down". This is a stepping stone, and is also very useful in every day life. Simply teach your dog, through whichever training method you find most effective, to lay down on its stomach on command. While this may seem boring and obvious, it is fairly impressive when you tell your dog to lay down, and have them immediately obey.
The next trick is the "stay". This, just like the "lay down", is very simple and is also a stepping stone. It is fairly easy to teach and very impressive. It can be used in everyday life, and comes in hand very well if you have a friend afraid of dogs.
After you teach these two tricks, the next three will be fairly simple. The roll over obviously stems directly from the "lay down". Once your dog is laying down, train them to simply roll over and onto their stomach again. It can be a little complicated to teach, because once they are laying down, they will feel accomplished and be in need of praise. They will not feel the need to listen to any more commands, and be satisfied with themselves that they already completed one of your commands. Once you get over this boundary, it is a very impressive trick.
The "turn around" is very impressive, mainly because it is not a trick that most dogs are taught. Simply have your dog stand directly in front of you, and train your dog to do a 360 degree turn while still staying directly in front of you. This trick, while not well known, is very easy to teach.
The "circle", like the "turn around", is very impressive because not many dogs have been taught it. It is slightly similar to the "turn around", but instead of turning 360 degrees in front of you, the dog makes a complete circle all the way around you.
These tricks are extremely simple and do not require any special skill from the dog. Any dog can do these tricks, and they are all extremely impressive in front of friends and family. Once the dog learns these tricks, you can begin to string them together. For example, you could go from "stay", to "lay down", and end with "circle". These tricks take minimum time to teach, and will always impress company. Feel free to use whichever words you want when teaching your dog these tricks, and have fun!
