#5: Seifer (Final Fantasy 8)
Worst Villain Trying to Seem Complex
Seifer's intentions were never quite clear. At first, he was Squall's bitter rival who evidently only had two friends and a love for lab coats, managing to wrangle a top spot in the disciplinary squad despite breaking every rule in Balamb Garden. Consistency, much? Sorceress Edea eventually became interested in Seifer, which would have garnered pedophilia allegations in real-life (he was 17, and she was old enough to be his mother) but never manifested as such. Seifer was then launched into villain mode for no reason other than to "get even" with Squall.
Seifer's role as villain was confusing, contributing nothing to the story other than being the last boss fight at the end of every disk. That didn't stop fan girls from pairing him up with Squall in many erotic fan fiction stories, however. Like their stories and countless other lemon pairings, Seifer's main spot as villain bored gamers faster than watching Don Corneo waiting for his "special pills" to kick in. Seifer earns the number 5 Worst Final Fantasy Villains spot just for being boring.
#4: Seymour (Final Fantasy 10)
Worst Villain Trying to Be Sephiroth
I remember the hype surrounding Final Fantasy 10's second main villain right before its release, and many expected him to be a better villain that Sephiroth. The disappointment that followed almost outmatched the teeth-grinding frustration of Yuna's inability to be a useful character. Seymour simply seemed like a carbon copy of Sephiroth, injected with codeine and stripped of any intrigue that made Sephiroth so popular. Long hair and revealing outfits did not make Sephiroth famous-his twisted, mentally disturbed past did. Seymour lacked both.
Seymour was one of the worst villains to knock his hooves on Spira, and his only legacy will be a string of yaoi fics written by hormonally charged 14 year olds. His dullness and lack of convincing "evilness" earns him the number 4 spot on the Worst Final Fantasy villains list.
#3: Necron (Final Fantasy 9)
Worst Villain To Have A Surprise Entrance No One Cared About
Do you remember the last boss in Final Fantasy 9? I don't either. Necron, whose origins were as clear as Kuja's actual gender, appeared suddenly as the last villain in the game's last boss fight, no motivations or origins clearly explained. Some die hard FF9 fans will tell you he was a creation from Kuja (the main antagonist in Final Fantasy 9), but that still doesn't excuse the sloppiness of one of the worst endings to a game. It feels like Necron was simply thrown in on a drunk bet to test gamers.
Why were we fighting Necron? The consensus agrees: "Just because." His late appearance in Final Fantasy 9 made no sense, launching him into spot 3 on the Worst Final Fantasy villains list.
#2: Yu Yevon (Final Fantasy 10)
Worst Villain to Screw Up an Awesome Buildup
Final Fantasy 10 was excellent in many aspects. Yu Yevon wasn't one of them. Yu Yevon was the main villain in FF10 that controlled Sin, a huge monster who demolished cities in Spira until summoners destroyed it. Though Sin was killed numerous times by countless summoners, Yu Yevon liked to make more Sins, causing catastrophic havoc.
This wasn't the worst part, however. The worst part manifested during the final battle, when the protagonists came face to face with the person who wanted to destroy Spira. So who was this "Yu Yevon"? Did he look like Seymour? Was he a human? Was he huge, monstrous, and carried numerous swords to kill?
No, he was a spider. That fact alone is enough for him to earn a number 2 spot on the Worst Final Fantasy Villains list. Who thought it was a good idea to make the main villain a spider?
#1: Kefka (Final Fantasy 6)
Worst Villain That Fans Claimed Was "Unique"
Surprisingly enough, Kefka often tops "Best Of" lists. Why is he included on a "Worst of" list?
Two points: He was an unoriginal, cliched villain with no motive-except world domination.
Despite the greatness of the video game he starred in, Kefka was a stereotypical, more-ruthless-than-necessary villain who needlessly poisoned and killed opponents in search of the typical "world domination" achievement. Nearly all unoriginal, boring villains use this crutch as a reason to their madness, and Kefka was no exception. The only difference is he dressed like a clown, which many villains can't claim as their calling card.
Kefka easily earns spot 1 in the Worst Final Fantasy Villains list because he was an overrated baddie with no depth. Although some debate Sephiroth was more overrated than Kefka, at least Sephiroth had a history and a personality to delve into. Kefka lacked both.
So what do you think? Do you think the 5 Worst Final Fantasy Villains deserved their spot? Rev up your mana and leave your comments below.

Post a CommentActually, there was a backstory to why Kefka was behaving the way he did. Just because you didn't realize that doesn't really make him the worst villain.
I agree with everything expect for one, you lost my respect there.
I didn't even get through 5 minutes of FFX-2 before I returned it, bahaha.
I agree with lionheart, lablanca was a horrible villian, was she even considered a villian lol
Interesting. You certainly know Final Fantasy!
Leblanc was alot worse than any of them hah.
Nice article i do disagree with a couple things. In my opinion Kefka was a great villain his motives and back ground alone shouldn't decide his greatness. It's the constant hard times Kefka forced upon the player of the game that really gave him his fame. Also you must realize back in Kefka's time he wasn't as unoriginal as he is now.
Beautiful i love the article. Big fan of final fantasy
Fun read, thanks!
I enjoyed reading this thanks for the info I have not seen any of this but now I know if I do who is not the best of the best ;)
