Halloween is fun for everybody. Especially picking a costume and getting dressed up is great fun for the whole family, but deciding on a costume can be difficult. With so many different options, it's easy to get overwhelmed. To help you out in finding the right costume for you, here is a list of Halloween costume ideas that you should stay far away from.

Montana

Dressing up as Montana might seem tempting, after all it is a very easy to make costume, just cut a piece of cardboard into a square, and you're done. Unfortunately, there are several problems with this costume, first of all, most people will have difficulty knowing what you are dressed up as. You might think that writing 'Montana' on your cardboard square will help, but in most cases people will just think you're dressed as a homeless Joe Montana. On top of this, a cardboard square is just about as boring as the state it represents itself, while this might seem like a perfect commentary on the Treasure State, Halloween parties are all about not being dull and boring.

Grover Cleveland

Ex presidents makes perfectly fine Halloween costumes, but not just any ex presidents. Grover Cleveland is just not a very controversial figure, and on top of that nobody knows what he used to look like, probably not even you which means the costume will likely be inaccurate as well as hard to guess what you are supposed to be. Most Halloween party guests will think you are Allan Edgar Poe if you show up in mid 1800's dress. In fact, if you go dressed as Grover Cleveland, and people mistake you for Allan Edgar Poe, just roll with it. Poe has infinitely more Halloween credibility than Grover Cleveland.

Child molester

While this is both a scary and uncomfortable subject that you would think would be perfect as a Halloween costume, it is just too dangerous. You would think that Halloween of all days would be a perfect day to offer the kids in your neighborhood free candy, but parents are sensitive about this kind of stuff even on Halloween. If your costume is too convincing, you'll have a whole swarm of angry parents on your tail. This is bad enough, but don't forget that melee weapons are unusually commonplace in the general population on Halloween. It's best not to risk it with this costume.

Your neighbor

While Halloween is a time where you want to creep people out a little bit, there's still limits to how weird and freaky you can be. Dressing up as an exact replica of your neighbor is an example of just being too creepy. This is especially true if your neighbor is of the opposite sex. This costume will generally have people thinking that you are a real life stalker, and that just brings the party down. Also, if you do have an unhealthy obsession for your neighbor, you do not want to telegraph it by dressing up as them. Keep it to yourself, and talk to a professional.

Exaltation

This idea is particularity bad. First of all, dressing up as abstract ideas is a bad plan to begin with. There are so many possible costume ideas in the physical plane that risking seeming all new-agey by dressing up as an emotion or a concept should just not be necessary. Even worse, to portray constant exaltation through the entire day and night is not exalting, it is in fact exhausting. Of course, it is possible to artificially induce exaltation by drinking heavily throughout the evening, but that is commonplace also for people in much more traditional costumes and should not be used as an excuse to dress as exaltation.
