The 5 Worst Things About Ping - Apple's New Music Social Network

Why Ping Isn't Such a Big Deal

Millionaire Hoy
Ping is Apple's new music social network built into iTunes 10 and while it's been an early success, there are quite a few crumby things about Apple's Ping network. Following are the five worst features of the Ping music social network.

No friend importing options

The internet is plagued with lots of social networking sites for just about everything including dating, fashion, music, shopping and friend finding networks and with there being so many social networks to choose from, one of the biggest social networking faux pas is to not implement some sort of friend importing option. Finding and manually added friends in social networks is time consuming and a big inconvenience and Pings lack of a friend importing option is a big "turn-off."

The user interface

Unless Apple changes the look and feel of Ping - and soon - the Ping music social network will never reach the popularity of a MySpace, Facebook, or Twitter. Ping is just too bland in its current state and looks nothing short of an iTunes app page - and even worse on the iPod Touch and iPhone.

Ping is buggy

Ping is a new social networking site and there are bound to be bugs, but Ping is so buggy that it makes you question whether or not Apple tested out their social network out at all. Ping suffers from constant freezes, has problems loading pages and videos, and is prone to quite a few error codes. I'm pretty sure that Apple will fix the majority of Ping's bugs in the future, but as of right now, Ping is too buggy for comfort.

Spam galore

Social networks, forums, and websites are usually plagued with fake ads claiming that you've won a free iPod, iPhone, iPad, MacBook Pro, and other Apple products, and when Apple launched their first social networking - Ping - scammers and spammers were met with the best opportunity to spam Apple products ever. Ping is filled with spammers due to the fact that spammers know that iTunes users have easy access to credit cards and iTunes accounts and that they already love Apple products.

Ping is sorta "meh"

Sure, Ping allows you to see what your friends are listening to, follow your favorite artists, watch music videos, and see upcoming concert listings - but who cares? What does Ping do that can't be done on Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube? With the added hassle of manually adding your friends, dealing with tons of spam, and dealing with Ping's buggy interface, why would anyone want to use Ping's social network instead of sticking with what they're already using?
