The 57th Annual National Day of Prayer: A Day for Thanks

Jennifer Glennon
The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May. This event is a way to invite people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress. President Harry S. Truman then signed it into law. The National Day of Prayer was established to communicate with every individual the need for personal repentance and prayer. This information was found at www.fairfaxtimes.com.

On this day of prayer, I plan to give thanks for thee freedoms this great country allows us. In both my morning and evening prayers, I will thank God for his blessings. I will thank him for the courage of our brave soldiers, fighting for our freedoms over seas. I will thank him for the insight of our founding fathers to embark on the creation of this great land. I will thank him for the democracy in which we live. I will pray for peace for our nation. I will pray that we will no longer find need to send our husbands and sons over seas to die. I will pray for the quick resolution to the internal fighting that strives to tear this great nation apart.

On this National Day of Prayer, I feel I must also share my prayers with my fellow man. I will tell my coworkers about this great day of prayer. I will tell them what I have prayed for. I will ask what they would like to pray for and join them in prayer for this thought. At dinnertime, my family will share what each has prayed for for our great nation. We will discuss what other things we believe still need to be prayed for. Most importantly, I will share the passion that is this the National Day of Prayer with the world through my writings on the internet.
