The 59th Creative Arts Primetime Emmy Winners

Television audiences are anxiously waiting for the Primetime Emmy Awards which will debut on Sunday, September 16th. That is less than a week away and for those that need a taste of the Emmys sooner, I may have something you are interested in. This past Saturday night, the 59th Creative Arts Primetime Emmys were held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Let us take a look at some of the winners.

The Academy of Television Arts and Science bestowed the largest number of 15 Emmys to the HBO network. Their 2 hour film of "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" which starred Aidan Quinn and Adam Beach won a total of 5 Emmys including "Outstanding Makeup for a Miniseries, Movie or Special", "Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Miniseries or a Movie" as well as "Outstanding Sound Editing for a Miniseries, Movie or Special". Spike Lee won for the network for "Outstanding Directing for Nonfiction Programming" with "When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts". HBO's "Ghosts of Abu Ghraib" won for "Outstanding Non Fiction Special".

The NBC Network came in second with a total win of 12 Emmys. Their own "Friday Night Lights" won for "Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series". Actress Elaine Stritch took home an Emmy for "Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy series" in the successful sitcom known as "30 Rock". Leslie Caron won for the crime drama "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" when she guest starred. The comedy sketch show "Saturday Night Live" won for "Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics" for their digital short entitled, "D**k In A Box" which starred host Justin Timberlake.

TNT's "Nightmares & Dreamscapes: From The Stories of Stephen King" won "Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Miniseries, Movie or Special" for their amazing episode entitled "Battleground" where G.I. Joe men come to life and attack a hit man played by actor William Hurt.

Comedian Kathy Griffin won for the BRAVO network for "Outstanding Reality Program" for her show "My Life on the D-List".

Actor John Goodman took home an Emmy for his guest role on NBC's "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip".

The Governors Award was given to HBO's "Addiction Project" as well as FOX's American Idol's "Idol Gives Back".

ABC's "79th Annual Academy Awards" won for "Outstanding Music Direction".

Other Emmy winners include the Cartoon Network's "Where's Lazlo?", Comedy Central's "South Park", CBS's "CSI: Miami" and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation", Sci-Fi Channel's Battlestar Galactica" and Discovery Channel's "Planet Earth".
