The 5th Annual Brooklyn Book Festival

The Brooklyn Book festival is a large and diverse literary festival held annually in Brooklyn, NY. Often, the events are themed. There are also timely and lively panel discussions. It's 5th celebration will be held on September 12th. It attracts thousands of book lovers of all ages. The inclusion of top national and international authors and new partners has expanded the festival's artistic reach. It continues to celebrate and enhance Brooklyn's contemporary and historic literary reputation.

Though the itinerary for 2010 has not yet been finalized or posted, there are already scores of writers of all types and genres on board, including children and teenagers. Among the listed writers are such names as Nick Abadzis, Jabari Asim, Roseann Cash, Michael Connelly, T Cooper, Siddhartha Deb, Mark Doty, Nick Flynn, Reif Larsen, John Murillo, and Joyce Carol Oates. The chrildren and teen catagory includes Mike Cavallaro, Brian Floca, E.Lockhart, Adele Griffin, Lauren Oliver, Mitali Perkins, and Olugbemisola Rhuday-Perkovich, and others.

There is a contest for Brooklyn area high school students. Students can submit poems, essays, stories, spoken word, and rapson the subject of the one thing they would go back and redo if they could. Entries can be both handwritten and typed, but must be readable and no more than 2, 500 words. Deadline is June 25, 2010. Entries must be mailed to the festival's official address at Brooklyn Lit Match c/o Liz Koch, Brooklyn Borough President's Office, 209 Jaroleman Street, Brooklyn, NY. 11201 or emailed to ekoch@brooklynbp.nyc.gov. inquiries can be made by calling 718-802-3852. The winner will receive a laptop, publication of winning entry, and will give a reading at the festival.

In 2010, a new element of the festival will be introduced. The new "Bookend Partnership"-hosting themed literary events at Brooklyn clubs, cultural organizations and bookstores from September 10 through September 12.
