The 63' Split-Window Corvette Sting Ray: A New One is Coming Lickety-split

General Motors has been
shaken up pretty good and
it is much smaller now
compared to its former
glory. There are however
some bright spots in what
remains of the automaker
such as the Cadillac CTS,
the new Chevy Malibu, and
the upcoming Split-Window
Corvette
.

GM has given the design
department the go ahead
to develop a Split-Window

Corvette based on the Sting Ray concept that was shown at last year's Chicago Auto
Show. The original Split-Window Corvette was offered for one year only in 1963
The double rear glass was replaced by a single pane in 1964 and beyond.

The 63's rear visibility was compromised slightly from the thin solid area between
the windows. Some owners thus had the center spine cut out and a large single rear
window installed to make their Corvette look like the others.

Now, over 45 years later, the original 63 Sting Ray coupe equipped with the
rare fuel-injected 327 V8 is one of the most prized Corvettes ever and thus it is
worth some big money to the tune of $150,000 or more. In 1963, the Split-Window
Corvette sold for $4,900. The 327 V8 engine had 360 hp, and the car did 0-60 in 6.2
seconds and had a top speed of 140 mph.

The upcoming Split-Window Corvette will rightfully generate interest from
enthusiasts, and the motoring public. There is likely a moral to be gained from
the original Split-Window Corvette that applies to today and tomorrow.

Know what you want, do what you want, be unique, and you will be worth
allot and at the top when it is all said and done!
