Idalia Benavides
Are you a new laptop user? Do you own a laptop that you would like to protect in order to keep it alive and undamaged? Well if so, then you should know a couple of tips in order to prevent anything from going wrong with your laptop. In this article, I am going to share 7 tips that you can't afford to not know as a laptop owner.

- Always use a surge protector
Electrical surges might not happen a lot to you, they might not even hurt your computer the first time it happens, but you can be sure that if you let this keep happening it will destroy your laptop at one point or another. When you connect your battery, make sure to use a surge protector; even if it's just as a cautionary step make sure to do it. Surge protectors are not expensive, if you don't have one you can buy one at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, or any other store that has an electronics section.

- Don't ever leave your laptop on the floor unattended
If you're ever working in space and there's no where to sit and you're forced to work on the floor, make sure to never leave your laptop there alone. Things happen to stuff that's on the floor and you can be sure that just because it's a laptop that doesn't mean that people will be more careful. Someone can accidentally step on it, drop something on it, or if there's pets they might start messing with it.

- Never leave papers in between your screen and keyboard
If you need to carry papers along with your laptop, use a folder and don't put it inside of laptop for any reason at all. Papers are very sharp around the edges, by leaving papers in between your computer screen and keyboard you might be damaging your screen; as papers can cut into it and cause pixels to mess up.

- Don't place your laptop on soft surfaces
If you do not have a hard surface to put your laptop on, put it on your lap. Try to avoid beds, bean bags, carpets, and all sorts of surfaces that are soft and that will make your laptop overheat. If your laptop overheats it can cause a lot of damage and your hard drive might even have a failure because of it, causing you to risk loosing important information you may have stored.

- Purchase a good laptop bag
The first thing you should do after purchasing your laptop is buying a good laptop bag. This might seem like something unimportant, but just think of how you treat a normal backpack. Normal backpacks are not treated with care, if you have a laptop bag and you don't treat that with care either, at least you can expect more protection. Sometimes one might drop the laptop bag on accident, so buy the bag!

- Never drink liquids or eat food while working on your laptop
Are you a clumsy person? Or are you the type of person that says that they never drop anything? Well, if you're either one of these, you should definitely not drink or eat while working on your laptop as accidents are unexpected and you may end up having one that could cause your laptop to get covered in liquid or messy food thus preventing it from working at it's full potential.

- Do not attempt to repair your own laptop unless you know what you're doing.
If you are having problems with your laptop, don't think that you can fix it unless you're positive that you know what you're doing. Sometimes you can damage the laptop more by trying to fix it if you don't know what you're doing. Go online and ask for tech help at free forums, or call your local tech help store and ask them to take a look at your laptop for you. Free checkups are not hard to find these days.
